Navajo weavers are world renowned for their rugs and tapestries. The areas around Toadlena Trading Post have long produced the diamond of the Navajo weaving industry. Called TWO GRAY HILLS, this style has features that distinguish it from other regions. Natural colors of the sheep are emphasized and geometric patterns dominate. Multiple, often complex borders are typical as are large central diamonds and corner geometrics.
This specimen is woven with native hand spun yarn. The weaver grew her own wool, sheep to weaving, totally hand done. It measures 30” x 21” with a hefty handle. Circa 1996, unknown artist. About 30 Weft per inch. Notice Spirit Trail at upper left.
