Turtle in Polychrome Margaret & Luther

Gutierrez means Polychrome. Multi-colors on pottery, among the artistic achievements of this remarkable Santa Clara Pueblo family. Under tutelage of notable parents Lela and Van, these siblings carried on the Polychrome traditions their entire lives.

Luther, brother nearly two decades older than Margaret was a notable potter and designer of his parents’ pottery. Following them, Margaret can claim to be an accomplished potter since youth. Combining her clay talents with brother Luther’s amazing, colorful and playful designs, they won many awards over many decades.

This masterful pottery Turtle is a prime specimen, measuring 8” x 5” x 3”, this figural contains 28 panels, each unique, and a whimsical nature sure to cheer all. From our PRIVATE COLLECTION.
