Hopi always carve their Kachinas from cottonwood root because it is the water seeking part of the plant. This Sun Kachina represents the source of all life and is among the most popular of the many Hopi Kachinas. Carved in an action position, standing on one foot, atop a gorgeous base. All accouterments are also wood, a testament to authenticity of the 1980-90s era.

The artist, the notable Coolidge Roy Jr wrote his own book on Kachinas, illustrating it with his carvings. Highly respected and widely collected, Coolidge remains a leader and comes from an illustrious Kachina carving family. Many ribbons and awards

Excellent condition but have a little dab of glue ready in case a small accouterment separates in shipping. Kachina is about five inches plus base and extensions. Action is dynamic!
