Pueblo tribes tended to avoid the human figure in their clay figurals until Helen Cordero made a huge success out of her Grandmother Storytellers in the Sixties. Among Pueblos, Grandmothers and Uncles take on the teaching of children as a cultural responsibility. So the gathering of children around storytellers is normal. Cordero and her followers immortalized the Pueblo Storytellers.
Miniature pottery appeared in the Seventies and Mary Francis Herrera of Cochiti was a leader with these adorable storytellers. This miniature is under three inches tall and has EIGHT babies, attached.
Excellent condition. COLLECTOR ALERT.
