Honan is a Hopi Kachina commonly known as the Badger, old style. It is known to originate from the Honani clan who brought it from the ancient village Kiwiwu. Honan is known as a healer who knows where herbs are found.
This little figure is carved of traditional Hopi cottonwood root. It is carved of semi-action, slightly bent knees and extruded arms. The artist did some mighty fine painting on the sash and mask. It is accessorized with a leather cape and genuine feathers.
Carved in 1982 by Tim Mowa, Shungopavi, Sun clan. Two inch (2″) size.
