Lawrence Namoki is a Kachina carver turned potter. He combines his incredibly precise Kachina heritage with the age old Hopi pottery tradition.
Lawrence is a natural potter. And a natural artist. He fashions clay vessels that astonished his family. Pottery is typically a woman’s work. But that taboo has evaporated, allowing talented Pueblo men like Lawrence  into the fold.
interestingly, Lawrence’s main goal on forming his pottery is to create a clay canvas for his Kachina imagery. This jar is an example, notice the fully enveloping Kachina design.
On one side is a Sunface flanked by a pair of Mudhead. On the reverse are Eototo, the leader of all Kachinas, and Aholi, his first lieutenant.
Highly collectible. Excellent condition. Circa 1980s.
