Considered one of the earliest young painters of San Ildefonso, Gilbert Atencio, (1930-1995) WAH PEEN. He studied at the Santa Fe Indian School and won many awards. He had numerous museum shows.
Atencio favored SI clowns in his work, as shown in this classic casein, 1980, 12” x 7” image, framed 17” x 19”. Mint condition. Notable and published lavishly in his early years especially, nephew of the famed Maria and Julian. He drew inspiration from the many dances and stories of his youth.
