Redware is somewhat unique, probably one per ten vs. Blackware. Perhaps less. So when there’s a good one, you perk up. This is one of those by Anita Suazo, a gorgeous and unique specimen.
Starting and ending with the deeply carved Avanyu, this jar has more deep clay removed than remaining . . . dangerous for firing. Then, Anita made sure all that deep clay removal was emphasized by adding a matte finish in her carving, and polishing the remainder.
The result is a subtle but dynamic Avanyu Serpent encircling the open jar shape. Glorious! Unique! Scarce! . . . RED!
